Vern and Letha
entered Joplin looking for lunch, after crossing Route
66, they found food at Hardee's and took it with them to keep on moving
toward Springfield, 75 miles East.
The airport is depicted as a point of interest because Vern used it in 1968. While working with the Illini State Telephone Company in Mascoutah, Ill. He had to meet with Finley Engineering at their home office in Lamar, Mo., several miles to the north. Vern had taken a commercial flight from St. Louis to Springfield. There, Finley's pilot picked him up for a hop in a single engine plane to Joplin. |
