This antique C.W. PARKER CAROUSEL was
built in Abilene by C.W. Parker c 1900. The carousel is a track-operated machine consisting of 24 hand-carved horses and 4 chariots on a 50 foot platform. It has it's original steam engine and band-organ.

A short time ago, the canvas cover over the carousel was removed and a solid building constructed around it. From the engine gear box there is a continous steel cable running under the wood platform and wrapping around it, allowing the platform to go around and around. the platform is for persons to walk on while boarding the ride. There are no vertical posts. The horses are mounted on long horizontal beams extending from the center of the ride. The riders just rock their horse back and forth at will.
