LAUNDRY ROOM
This
room is entered from the Carriage house right or from tool room left. Clothes
were boiled in the Copper wash boiler on the stove. They were lifted out
with a long forked stick and dropped, boiling hot, into the round wash
tub left. They were scrubbed on the wash board, put through the wringer
to the next tub and rinsed, then hung to dry outside or on drying rack.
The ironing board rests over the backs of two chairs. Ironing was accomplished
with "sad-irons" which were heated on the Kitchen stove.
